Asylum seekers from asylum seekers’ centers in Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland with (possible) corona can soon be quarantined in a specially equipped ‘hotel’.

Residents of the azc Ter Apel, among others, who may be infected with the corona virus, will be quarantined in Haren.

The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) announced on Friday that it would set up the former hotel Nescio in Haren as a so-called fall-back location. The COA previously made an urgent appeal to the presidents of the security regions to make quarantine places available for asylum seekers. Asylum seekers’ centers are now, due to lack of space, only able to isolate a few asylum seekers in the event of an outbreak of the new corona virus.

“A fall-back location is necessary, because it can happen that we can no longer place groups of residents in quarantine or isolation separately from each other in a reception location in Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe,” the COA reported on Friday. The people stay in quarantine or isolation for a maximum of 14 days and then return to the asylum seekers’ center where they come from.

In total, this concerns a maximum of a hundred people. Initially, COA wants to use this ‘quarantine hotel’ in Haren until June of next year.
